things to do

WHITEWATER CENTER

Just 30 minutes from Uptown Charlotte, the U.S. National Whitewater Center is one of the city's favorite spots for outdoor fun. With live music, craft beer, great food, and miles of scenic trails, it's a great place to spend an afternoon or evening. If you're looking for a little more adventure, you can also go whitewater rafting, ziplining, tackle the ropes courses, mountain bike, and more. Or simply grab a parking pass, explore the grounds, and enjoy the atmosphere.

BREWERY HOP

Charlotte boasts an exorbitant amount of breweries. Madison and Garrett’s favorites include Monday Night, Club West Brewing, Charlotte Beer Garden, The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery & Biergarten and Suffolk Punch, all located in South End.

WALK THE RAIL TRAIL

Stretching approximately 11 miles through some of Charlotte's most vibrant neighborhoods, the Charlotte Rail Trail is one of the best ways to experience the city. Walk, bike, or scooter your way through South End while stopping at favorite local spots like Tavern on the Tracks for a bite and a drink, Two Scoops Creamery South End for ice cream, or one of the many breweries, coffee shops, boutiques, and restaurants along the way. The trail is the perfect way to spend an afternoon exploring Charlotte at your own pace.

If you're in town on Saturday morning, don't miss the South End Farmers Market at Atherton Mill. Located just off the Rail Trail, the market features local farmers, artisan vendors, fresh flowers, baked goods, and more. It's open every Saturday from 8:00 AM–1:00 PM (outdoors at Atherton Mill, 2000 South Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203) and is a great way to experience one of our favorite Charlotte traditions.

places to eat

RHINO MARKET

Great spot for a quick breakfast or lunch with locations across Charlotte. The breakfast burrito was a staple in the early days of Madison and Garrett's relationship and remains a grab-and-go work breakfast of Garrett's today.

CALLE SOL

A favorite of Madison's, Calle Sol is a Latin eatery with a Chino-Peruvian twist. We recommend visiting the location in Plaza Midwood and trying one of the ceviche dishes.

KID CASHEW

Kid Cashew is located in Dilworth along East Boulevard. The food leans Mediterranean and is well-priced and delicious. Walk-ins only. Another favorite on East Boulevard includes 300 East, an American-fare staple with brunch, lunch, and dinner. Both restaurants offer great outdoor seating.

300 EAST

300 East is a beloved Charlotte neighborhood restaurant known for its cozy atmosphere, creative American cuisine, and one of the city's best brunches.
